Welcome to SafeD – England Hockey’s Safeguarding Young People

The current media coverage of historic abuse in football has put the issue of safeguarding firmly in the spotlight. With the help of our clubs and volunteers we have developed robust policies and procedures since we came into existence in 2003. England Hockey has achieved the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit’s (CPSU) Advanced Standard in Safeguarding which is the highest level. In addition we are also subject to an annual audit by the CPSU.

With safeguarding in sport prominent at the moment, one of the things that has been highlighted is the importance of the role of Welfare Officer and a clubs responsibility to safeguard and protect its young members.

It seems timely to send a reminder of things that clubs should be doing to ensure young people continue to play hockey in a safe environment. It is not just down to the welfare officer, but everyone involved to help when needed.

England Hockey’s Safeguarding Policy, Procedures and Good Practice Guidance (SafeD) and lots of useful templates are all available on the website.
