Following the success of the U12 team in the county rounds, the team travelled to Surbiton Hockey Club to compete in the regional tournament.
Unexpected heat on the day tested fitness of all the teams and through our pool rounds we won 1-0 to Wallingford, drew 1-1 with Guildford and lost 2-0 to Spencer. Some brilliant keeping by Issy Moffatt, and exceptional defence by Sophie Tredwell kept us in the games on several occasions.
Finishing second place in our pool C meant we played Richmond, the winners of pool A, in the quarter final. In this game the U12 team demonstrated fantastic heart, passed the ball much better than in previous games and at the end of the first half the girls broke away with a decisive strike from the top of the D by captain Millie Holme to give us the lead. The second half remained without further goals putting the team through to the semi finals!
Our semi final draw was against Surbiton who we knew were well organised and tough opponents. Unfortunately for us, the made that clear very early putting two goals passed our tiring players. By the end, Surbiton had taken a 7-0 lead knocking us out of the tournament but a fantastic achievement for everyone!
