A first outing for the new squad ends with a 1-0 loss.

Buckingham HC U16 Girls got their EH Tier 2 competition underway on Sunday 27th October at Stowe School against a strong Bedford team who were last season crowned as Regional champions.

The team, expertly led by captain and goalkeeper Tyler Wilson, is looking to grow again after a tough season last year with limited personnel. Coached by Dominic Blackmore-Beeles and Ella Jackson, the girls went into the game full of confidence on a sunny and crisp morning at Stowe. Starting a bit gingerly the team, consisting of 6 stoics, started to build in confidence and created some lovely link play. Cassidy Jorritsma and Clara Capella looked threatening going forwards with Gaby Evans & Megan Churchill playing as aggressive half backs getting high at any opportunity.

Bedford scored a cracking finish in the 2nd half, burying it past the diving Wilson to take Bedford into the lead. Buckingham then went on to have around 10 penalty corners but just couldn't find the golden touch. Sasha Wakeford, the engine in central midfield, never stopped running and provided some brilliant opportunities going forwards - Bella Lloyd, Sophie Titmuss and Lily Munday all getting close to being on the scoresheet and would have done if it wasn't for some excellent goalkeeping from the Bedford #1.

Ultimately the first outing ended in a narrow defeat but for this newly formed team, the performance was exceptional. The girls now have a couple weeks away to focus on their next match away at Khalsa Leamington.
