2. History

Buckingham Hockey Club has been in existence since before 1950, and has 140 members providing social, competitive through to elite hockey that is enjoyable to all its members, by being friendly, sociable and welcoming to all ages and abilities. A club that provides hockey for all the family, from a junior right through to first team representation.

It now has two women’s teams, one men’s team and a thriving junior section which has grown year on year. When hockey was played on grass, the Club shared the same grass pitch area with Buckingham Cricket Club, together with a clubhouse. When hockey moved from grass to artificial grass pitches in the 1990s, the Club was fortunate to play hockey and share facilities on the two pitches at Stowe School, two miles from the centre of Buckingham.

Our 1st Ladies XI have been promoted or won their respective league for the past 9 of 15 seasons and for the first time in 2014 they played in England Hockey’s Investec Premier Division (the top league in the country representing the top 10 national teams in England and Wales) In the past two years the Ladies 1st XI have been placed 4th in the Investec Premier League, have made the Play offs to represent England in the European Cup on two occasions, plus have been runners up in the indoor and twice in the outdoor England Hockey cup finals at Lee Valley.

Our 2nd XI have earned 7 promotions in as many years now play in the Regional South Clubs Women’s Hockey League Division 3A.

Our newly formed Men’s 1st XI are starting their first league appearance 2019-2020 in the Middlesex, Berks, Bucks and Oxon league and we look forward to an exciting future for the team. We have aspirations to start a Men's 2nd XI in the near future.

BHC has a thriving and expanding junior section that offers excellent coaching and playing opportunities for girls and boys aged 6-18 years old. Our juniors have enjoyed success at county, regional and national level. Links between the junior and senior sections are excellent with a number of the senior players involved in coaching our juniors

Over the last few seasons teams in the Club have achieved success and been promoted. However, Club membership has reduced recently due to lack of junior members joining the club. A get-well plan has been designed to rectify this recent phenomenon

The Club started the 2020-21 season with senior teams in the following leagues:

Men’s 1st XI – Middlesex, Berks, Bucks and Oxon
Ladies 1st XI – Investec Premier League
Ladies 2nd XI – South 3A
