Buckingham Progress to Cup Quarter Finals
In fourth round of the cup on Sunday, the side took on East Conference side, Harleston Magpies. Missing a number of other players who were on on GB development duty, the side produced a somewhat lacklustre performance but still ran out comfortable 2-0 winners to progress to the quarter finals. Buckingham started slowly but still created a fantastic opportunity after just four minutes. However, unfortunately Abbie Brant sent her flick high and wide. Buckingham did take the lead from their first penalty corner just two minutes later, when Lauren Thomas
fired the ball into the corner for 1-0. Despite dominating possession and territory, Buckingham were struggling to play with their usual passing fluency and rhythm and as a result, failed to create many other clear cut scoring chances. They were given a warning shot just two minutes before the break, when a rare counter attack saw the visitors rattle the crossbar of goalkeeper Daisy Hacking who was making her outdoor debut.
Buckingham reset their goals at half time and came out playing much better in the second period. Their passing was more accurate and apart from the odd counter attack they totally dominated proceedings. The home side came close to extending their lead on a number of occasions but the visitors, to their credit fought hard and defended really well throughout. Their resistance was finally broken when a flowing, high speed, passing move, involving Tash James
and Eloise Laity
resulted in Katrina Nicholson
sweeping the ball into an empty net with just over three minutes remaining to seal victory and Buckingham's place in the next round.
