On Saturday Buckingham took on North Division 1 outfit Stourport in the last sixteen of the cup. From past experience, Buckingham knew the visitors would be a tough proposition. With goalkeeper Ella Jackson, defender Megan Lewis-Williams and midfielder Eloise Laity away on Wales international duty and ex England and Great Britain international forward Lucy Wood also unavailable, Buckingham knew that the strength and depth of their squad would be well and truly tested but with Palyer of the Match Maddy Newlyn superb and Steph Tirrell in goal, youngster Charlotte Yates and Emma Onien also performing well, they knew they were in safe hands. In the event, the visitors worked extremely hard and played very well on both sides of the ball which meant the encounter proved to be as tough and tight as anticipated.
Despite Buckingham struggling to play with their usual tempo and flow in attack, they defended very well, allowing Stourport very few opportunities and in the end, it was a single goal from Lottie Porter, just three minutes before half time that decided the outcome of the game. The home side feeling more than a little relieved to have made it through to the last sixteen unscathed and now being able to fully focus on their final, vital league game of 2019.
