On Saturday Buckingham returned to league action, following a weeks break with a home fixture against local rivals Oxford Hawks.
Despite lacking a little in their usual energy and intensity, Buckingham were immediately in the ascendency. However, despite dominating both possession and territory and creating a number of scoring opportunities and penalty corners they could not find a way through the visitors well marshalled defence and England U21 gaol keeper. Despite being on the back foot for the majority of the half, the visitors always posed a threat on the break with GK Ella Jackson needing to make a couple of important interventions. With neither side able to find a way through the score remained 0-0 at half time.
The second half started in much the same manner as the first but the visitors gradually grew into the game. Buckingham still enjoyed the lions share of possession but chances were few and far between for either side. Jackson again needed to be sharp on a couple of occasions whilst there were still a number of near misses at the other end. It looked like the game was heading for a goalless draw until up stepped captain and player of the match Kitty Higgins with the all important goal. With just eight minutes remaining the pressure pressure finally told when Leanne Grimsley stole the ball in the press. She found Abbie Brant who in turn fed Higgins who had broken through from midfield and she slotted home from close range much to the home sides delight. The goal was enough to give Buckingham a vital three points and move them up into second place in the league table.
