On Sunday, in a pivotal encounter, Buckingham made the long trip to Bristol to take on fifth placed Clifton Robinsons, who were just four points behind Buckingham.
Buckingham started poorly as the home side converted a scrappy chance from their first attack in the third minute. Despite this setback, Buckingham gradually played themselves back into the game and were on level terms after thirteen minutes. Abbie Brant touching the ball home from a Katrina Nicholson pass. The second quarter was an even affair but once again, it was the home side who took the lead five minutes before half time when they clinically converted a swift counter attack, following a turnover in midfield.
Frustrated at being 2-1 down Buckingham regrouped during the break and came out firing. They dominated the third quarter from the outset and after a sustained period of pressure were rewarded for their efforts when a diving Tash James turned in an exquisite backhand cross from Player Of The Match Maddy Newlyn, to bring the scores level. It was now all Buckingham and a fantastic piece of interplay between Lottie Porter and James saw James turn provider as Porter made the score 3-2 with just seconds to go before the end of the third quarter.
Buckingham continued to have the better of the final quarter but could not extend their lead and whilst the home side remained a threat on the counter attack until the end, Buckingham on the whole managed these well to earn a very important and hard fought 3-2 win.
