Having lost a number of players in the off-season, including Charlie Coumbe moving to MK, and attracting some very talented new players, a very changed Buckingham 2s started their season having been promoted to the South League.
Buckingham's record breaking unbeaten run came to a dramatic end in their first match against Hampstead & Westminster, in their second they faced local rivals away at Milton Keynes 1s.
The match started at a ferocious pace with both teams attacking and defending with passion. Buckingham got the first break with a deflected goal in open play from Tash James. Milton Keynes reacted quickly and scored from open play in the 11th & 14th minutes bringing the score to 2-1. Buckingham rallied and obtained a succession of short corners, but they were unable to convert, the new team's lack of experience of working together showing.
A break after 22 minutes from Milton Keynes, left the Buckingham defence stranded, and an easy cross was turned in to leave the score 3-1 at half time.
The team rallied in the second half after a strong team talk from new coach Luke Stone, and built the pressure on. In an increasingly physical game Milton Keynes had a goal disallowed and Buckingham continued to push attack after attack showing great potential. In the 63rd minute James score her second in a short corner deflection off a strike from Sophie Tuckett.
In the final seconds of play a great run resulted in a one-on-one with the MK goalkeeper which unfortunately Freshwater was unable to convert.
Final score 3-2 to Milton Keynes
