In memory of a great player

On a very emotional day for the Buckingham players after the untimely death of Abby Webb (pictured), the 2's travelled to Hampstead & Westminster for their last game of 2015. With H/W sitting just one point below Buckingham in the league Buckingham knew it was going to be a fiercely competitive game and it was.
Both teams started well but it was Buckingham who after good linking play were awarded a couple of short corners but impressive goalkeeping prevented any score. It was then H/W who stepped up the pace and after 24 minutes after winning the ball on the left they converted from close range after the Buckingham defence could not clear the ball in the circle. This speared Buckingham on who dominated the final 10 minutes of the first half with shots from Farley, Freshwater and Holme being denied by the keeper again.
Buckingham stated the second half like the first and levelled the score within 3 minutes after a great run by Izzy P found inform Tash James who calmly converted her reverse stick shot. After more pressure and short corners it was James who scored from open play in the 51 minute.
The final ten minutes was full of controversy. Buckingham went down to 10 when midfielder Holmes got a very unlucky green card and H/W were awarded three consecutive short corners but strong and determined defending saw Buckingham clear the ball. In the final minute H/W illegally prevented Buckingham a third goal and were awarded a flick but unfortunately could not convert.
Credit to all the players who worked tirelessly for each other. The player of the match was awarded to the incredible Abby Webb who was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will always be part of Buckingham Hockey Club.
