Buckingham 2nd Team had a long trip to Battersea to play their Division 2 game against London Wayfarers.
The home side started better than Buckingham and forced a penalty corner within 2 minutes from the start which was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Amy Cairns. Buckingham defended well for the next 25 minutes, but the well organised and somewhat physical home team netted twice to lead 2 – 0 at half time.
Following a motivating talk during the break Buckingham began the 2nd half positively and enjoyed several good passages of play. But the home side responded well to Buckingham’s every move and scored their 3rd goal.
Andrea Freshwater’s long pass found unmarked Beth Stainsby who confidently beat the home goalie to score Buckingham s 1st goal.
Some 50-50 decisions did not go in favour of Buckingham but they managed to restrict the home team, Fi Farley and Nikki Greaves defended well. Buckingham never gave up, but gave the ball away too much and the Wayfarers scored again to seal victory by 4 goals to 1.
Fi Farley was voted Buckingham’s most valued player.
