Buckingham 2nd Xl V Basingstoke 1st Xl

Playing their best hockey of the season to date Buckingham came very close to clinching their first win against top of the table Basingstoke Ladies 1st team

In an attractive free flowing game Basingstoke scored first after 18 minutes following a penalty corner, but this was immediately reciprocated by Buckingham’s Nikki Greaves goal.
The 1-1 half time score was a true reflection of how even the first half had been.

After 23 minutes of the second half Buckingham took the lead, with a diving goal from Emily Prothero and hopes of a home victory became stronger.
However Basingstoke turned up the heat forcing 2 penalty corners in quick succession. The first went unconverted thanks to an impressive diving save by in-form goalie Amy Cairns, but the second was successful, bringing the scores level.

Buckingham enjoyed a purple patch and took the lead when Beth Stainsby scored with a cracking shot from a penalty corner.,
The league leaders threw everything into attack and with only minutes remaining scored the equaliser from a penalty corner, to give a final score of 3 all. Nikki Greaves was voted most valuable player for her fine all-round contribution to the game.
