Having drawn 1-1 in last week’s league game against the same opposition, Buckingham Ladies 2nds were expecting another challenging game, which it did turn out to be.
Buckingham scored first through Emily Protheroe (18mins) , after making several promising runs on the right flank and shortly afterwards, Andrea Freshwater put the home side further ahead.
The 2-0 lead was short lived, Oxford replying with a goal 2 minutes later. With 5 minutes of the first half remaining Oxford scored another goal, but the decision was reversed after consultation between the officials.
The teams were evenly matched and a good move by Oxford should have resulted in a goal but with the Buckingham goalkeeper beaten the shot was brilliantly saved on the goal line by Mel Tuckett. Georgie Holme scored Buckingham’s third to give the home side some breathing space and with 10 minutes of the match remaining Andrea Freshwater skilfully beat 3 defenders before notching Buckingham’s 4th goal to seal a fine victory in what had been a challenging encounter. Most valuable player for Buckingham was Emily Protheroe.
