A pleasant evening at Stowe saw a near reversal of last year’s score

Stowe School U16’s v Buckingham U16’s

A pleasant evening at Stowe saw a near reversal of last year’s score against Stowe School with the Girls in Black coming out as 6-1 victors on this occasion.

Buckingham were quick to claim the high ground and put Stowe under pressure from the offset. The Stowe girls battled hard throughout the first half to retrieve their position and gain a foothold in midfield but the Buckingham girls were having none of it. What little openings the blues did have were quickly cancelled by a resolute Buckingham defence and the speed of their defenders was such that threats were frequently changed into attacking opportunities.

The teams left the pitch at half time with Buckingham two goals in their favour. Both goals coming from open play.

A change of tactics to long balls and breaks in the second half could be considered an admission that Stowe were struggling against the quality of the Buckingham midfielders. Buckingham continued where they had left off with crosses and passes creating problems for the Stowe defence and countless opportunities resulting in near misses and penalty corners – two of the latter being converted into goals.

Stowe nearly pulled a goal back with a raised attempt but it was foiled by the goalkeeper’s reflexes. Buckingham added a further two goals from open play which was just reward for a dominant display but unfortunately conceded a consolation goal to a Stowe break away just prior to the final whistle.

Buckingham move on with lots of positives to take into the next match.

Goals: Isabella 3, Evie 2 (2xPC), Annie.
