4s beat Slough veterans in exciting final match

The 4s ended the season on a high with a convincing 4 - 0 victory over Slough 3s.

The girls played with great energy and authority for the outset, with the first serious assault on the Slough goal coming after only 3 minutes when a slicing pass from Emily Krelle straight across the Slough goal evaded both Lauren and Tash. The first Buckingham short corner followed 5 minutes later when another powerful strike from the side post went just wide. A minute later we made up for the early misses with a great goal from Lucy. Buckingham continued to completely dominate the midfield with skillful, committed tackling from the screen and midfield lines turning the play straight back towards the Slough half whenever the ball strayed towards our goal. Katie was outstanding in letting nothing go, ensuring that she got the ball on the 2nd or 3rd attempt any time she couldn't secure it at the first touch. All the girls got their positional play spot-on, being in just the right position to receive the quick sideways pass and moving rapidly into space whenever they were off the ball. Gone was the running into banks of defenders from earlier in the season. Instead they found the early pass and the quick one-two and Slough couldn't find an answer.

The Slough goalie had loads of work and spent quite a lot of the match logged on the ground blocking yet another assault on goal. Buckingham did manage to miss one open goal after 15 minutes with the Slough goalie beached on the ground at the top of the D, but the girls re-found their touch with another Lucy goal in the 28th minute, and a third a minute later, both scored from open play following great team interlinking.

The 2nd half started with a succession of 3 Buckingham short corners in the first minute without further score, and the 15th minute of the 2nd half saw a real high-light of the match when Daisy actually touched the ball! She kicked the ball clear with great assurance when Slough managed to penetrate the Buckingham D for possibly the only time in the match. The last 15 minutes of the match produced a succession of short corners for Buckingham with Lucy touching in her 4th goal during the first of them.

Overall the girls produced possibly their best display of skillfull teamwork of the season against a side full of experienced and battle-hardy veterans. This was hardly the walk-over of the last two weeks, and the 4s proved just how much assurance and experience they have gained over a fantastic season.

Players of the match were Lucy and Katie by a clear vote.
