At home, on Sunday at Stowe School, the Pirates started a little sluggishly against Thame but despite dominating for the majority of the match, could not find a way through Thame’s resolute defence as the game ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw.
In their second match the boys produced a fantastic performance against a very good Southgate side. In the first half, Rufus Barnes opened the scoring following a fine run by Zeb Hodgson and it was Hodgson who extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal of his own before the half time break. Southgate pulled a goal back early in the second half which led to a tense period. However, following some fine defensive work by Harrison Cairns, a superb counter attack and through ball from Frank Bursell saw Trystan Jones skilfully round the goalkeeper to seal an impressive 3-1 win.
The final game was against a very strong Amersham & Chalfont outfit. The Pirates started poorly and were thankful to Layth Elmbrati in goal for keeping them in the game with some fine saves. However, there was little even he could do to prevent the visitors two goals. In the second half the Pirates fought hard and came close to scoring on a number of occasions but could not find a way back into the game, as they were ultimately beaten by the better side on the day. However, it was another hugely positive day with the boys showing real character as well as some fine skills and team play.
