On Sunday Buckingham travelled to Hertfordshire to take on East Conference side St Albans in the second round of the cup. With youngster Karen Wildman making her debut, Buckingham put on a impressive display to run out comfortable victors. In a performance that showcased the speed, tempo and intensity of premier league hockey, Buckingham came away 7-1 winners, with a hat-trick for Player of the Match Phoebe Richards, two more for Tash James and one apiece for Lottie Porter and Maddy Newlyn.
Pheobe Richards opened the scoring shortly followed by a goal from top scorer Tash James. Maddy Newlyn then finished from close in and James' second of the game made the score 4-0 at half time. Some flowing hockey at the start of the second half resulted in another two goals in quick succession. Lottie Porter firing home after a good save from the St Albans keeper denied her initial shot. Richards then scored her second after a flowing counter attack. St Albans scored a late consolation goal from a penalty corner before Richards completed her hat-trick, swatting home a high rebound after the St Albans keeper had made a superb save from a seemingly unstoppable shot from Newlyn.
