Needing a result to stay in the hunt for a top 6 berth, Buckingham got off to the worst possible start as the conceded a scrappy goal inside the opening two minutes. This definitely rattled the visiting side as Wimbledon enjoyed the better of the rest of the opening quarter. However, Buckingham regrouped at quarter time and it was Buckingham who had much the better of the second period. Their efforts were rewarded when some fantastic attacking play down the right had side led to a barrage of penalty corners. Form the fourth re-award Kitty Higgins scored a spectacular deflected goal into the roof of the next following a slick routine after twenty eight minutes to leave the scores level at half time.
Unfortunately for Buckingham, the second half started in much the same way as the first, with the visitors conceding in the opening two minutes. Some sloppy defending gifted the home side the initial penalty. Despite this being well defended, the umpires deemed there to have been an offence in the D and the home side took full advantage, scoring the re-award to go 2-1 up. Wimbledon extended their lead just five minutes later when Great Britain GB Holly Pearne-Webb fired home from another penalty corner to make the score 3-1. Buckingham continued to fight hard, playing some good hockey and creating a number of very good openings to reduce the deficit but as has been the story of the season so far, they were unable to convert them and with eight minutes remaining they conceded a penalty stroke. This was calmly dispatched to make the score 4-1. Although Buckingham never gave up fighting, they conceded again in the final seconds to make the final score 5-1. It was another incredibly frustrating result but it had been a pretty good overall performance with the scoreline not being a fair reflection of the game as a whole. Mathematically Buckingham still have an outside chance of making the top 6 if they can win their final two games but with points and goal difference against them this now looks highly unlikely.
