Buckingham 2s go marching on

Buckingham 2s continued their march towards a 100% record this season in their penultimate match against Phoenix & Ranelagh 1s. Through their previous meetings Buckingham knew that they would have to be patient as P&R have a very experienced defense and are the only other team to have taken point off second placed Reading this season.

Buckingham were very structured and disciplined from the start and took their time in finding opportunities to break at speed. This approach paid off in the 20th minute when Ella Cusack's stunning cross was slotted in by Georgie Holme for the first goal. This was quickly followed by a similarly impressive cross from Andrea Freshwater for Holme to get her second.

In the second half Buckingham's fitness showed as they kept the ball for the majority of the half. After 44 minutes Freshwater scored her second. On 53 minutes a Phoenix defender's foot prevented a scoring opportunity and the resulting penalty flick was efficiently converted by Sophie Tuckett. In the 56th minute Georgie Holme completed a hat trick on her 17th birthday.

The majority of the last 20 minutes were played in the Phoenix D including a superb reverse-hit cross from Ella Cusack finding Freshwater for the 6th goal. In the final minute of the game Cusack crossed again for Freshwater to complete her hat trick, earning Cusack a well deserved player of the match.

Phoenix & Ranelagh's loss sees them relegated from Premier 1, and next Sunday's final match for Buckingham 2s could see a perfect end to their season
