Despite a delayed start due to the frosty conditions, Buckingham started strongly against a Salisbury XI who were determined to see the match go ahead after a long journey. Buckingham moved the ball with confidence and a strong run down the right from Charlotte Yates saw her cross met in front of the goal by Fi Farley who put the ball away for the first goal of the game. This was followed close to half time by a further Buckingham score when Elloise Jorritsma’s aerial shot was smartly finished by mum Ruth.
The home team came out of the half time team talk feeling comfortable and were probably too complacent when some poor marking allowed Salisbury back into the game taking the score to 2-1. Subsequently Buckingham’s Molly Brealey converted one of the many short corners awarded to take the score to 3-1. Despite some tireless work from Player of the Match Robyn Gribble in the Buckingham midfield, some gaps started to open up in the Buckingham defence and Salisbury took advantage to score their second of the match. In a very tense final five minutes the Buckingham defence were able to hold out for a 3-2 victory which takes them to 8th in South League Division 3A
