Having only 9 players, Buckingham Ladies 3s still went out and proved why we deserve to be in division 2, if not higher. The work rate of everyone was so high despite having no subs and having to cover more of the pitch than usual.
Play was varied throughout the match and it was by no means a walkover by Wallingford. Defence kept their cool and impressively managed to hold off the Wallingford attack time and time again, with only the odd few times getting through resulting in goals. Jenny made several crucial interceptions, taking pressure off those running back, Imogen held centre back, either breaking the attackers flow or winning possession back and Georgie ran tirelessly shifting between defence and mid to make life difficult for Wallingford. Olivia and Katie held screen, clearing out loose balls and putting Wallingford under constant pressure.
Despite only nine players, we still had some attacking opportunities thanks to play from Emily K, Tash and Katie who were always looking to move the ball onwards and supported each other brilliantly. We managed to win 2 short corners but unfortunately couldn’t convert. Fantastic diving from Amy ensured that Wallingford converted precious few of their short corner attempts also.
Despite the scoreline, it was clear all players put in their best effort and showed that with a full squad we were in for a good run in Division 2.
