Girls team effort leads to a well deserved win.

Luckily our fixture went ahead this weekend as we were a later start than the other age groups.
The warm up was needed as everyone was so cold!

The girls started playing as a team immediately and at 8 minutes Emily P scored from a short corner which is something we haven't been able to do yet this season so all that practice is paying off!

The rest of the half saw most of the play in their half with some great passing between Frankie M, Emily P, Bella F and Jemima H. Nikki G did an amazing run from one end to the other and only just failed to score at the end. Despite then getting a whack on the knee which meant she had to come of for an ice pack, she was more upset at not making the pass than the horrible bruise I expect has appeared by now! A short corner was awarded to us on the whistle of 1/2 time and it was quite a thing to see all our players around the circle! (I was so excited I forgot to take a picture!) Rugby put up good defence but luckily Emily P found a way through and managed to get another goal. A small consolation for the fall and grazed knee she sustained in a match that ended up being quite physical.

At the start of the second half Rugby had obviously had a positive team talk at 1/2 time as they came out fighting. Our defence stood up to it with Daisy organising her defenders Antoinette, Tilly and Karen and with help from everyone they managed to keep the ball out. Our team then stepped up their game and Lauren R scored a hat trick, which Liz had asked her to do at 1/2 time as she'd missed an earlier opportunity!! Lauren also worked hard fighting for the ball and being in the right place at the right tie to score.

Katie M worked really hard and never gave up on tackling for the ball which made a real difference and put Rugby off their game. At the forwards end Izzy C also played a fantastic game and got players player.

Fankie M got coaches player but as you can see it was a game played by a whole team.

The match was closer that the result suggests as Rugby put up a hard fight but couldn't convert their chances.
Thank you as always to those that came and supported us, Mike for setting up and umpiring and Liz for giving up her time when she doesn't even have a daughter in our squad!
