Buckingham 4s are now established in the middle of the Division 6 league table having won 3, lost 3, drawn one and with a zero goal difference, 18 goals either way. The team has proved its ability to dominate the midfield against most teams with a strong defence. Our challenge now is to find a way to deliver the ball efficiently into the D with players in position to put it away with confidence.
The match started strongly with a well-deserved goal for the ever energetic and committed Hannah Jacobs in the 9th minute. Thame fought back with consistent pressure which belied their bottom of the table position, and play moved rapidly up and down the pitch with neither side clearly dominating play. Buckingham still need to remember to keep playing across the full width of the pitch, too often unable to extricate themselves from a tangle of players squeezed into one half of the length of the pitch.
Our defense held solid with a masterly performance by Player of the Match Charlotte Wilson and a couple of great saves from Olivia Thomas guaranteeing that we never lost our early lead. Finally, as the final whistle blew, we earned a short corner and with all our field players clustered round the Thame D Emily Fellingham put away our second goal for an clear, but by no means easy, victory.
